Joachim Chissano Is Here
Former Mozambican president Joaquim Chissano is in the country to open the 8th annual Stakeholders Meeting of Medicines for Malaria Venture (M .M. V).
The MMV is a non-profit organisation dedicated to reducing the burden of malaria in disease endemic countries by discovering, developing and facilitating the delivery of effective and affordable antimalarial drugs through public-private partnerships.
A press statement issued by the MMV, stated that after eight years of operation, the organisation is managing the largest ever portfolio of malaria drug research with nearly 40 projects at different stages of drugs research and development.
The meeting, which will be held under the theme, Mission Possible, aims at highlighting the bold vision of malaria eradication and MMV’s critical role in this mission.
The organisation will hold its second Annual Access symposium tomorrow, where the keynote speaker will be Dora Akunyili, Director General of Nigeria’s National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control.
The MMV, which focuses on developing the best medicines for people at risk of malaria, is expected to launch its first new drug at the end of the year.
