MOFA Adopts Plans For Subsidised Fertiliser

By Godfrey K. Nyanney, Sekondi - newtimesonline.com

THE Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA), has drawn up a programme to make subsidised fertiliser available to farmers.

Under the plan, genuine farmers will be identified and issued with coupons that will enable them to buy fertiliser from registered distributors.

The Western Regional Director of MOFA, David Okai, disclosed this to the Times in an interview on Thursday.

He said the strategy was adopted at a meeting held in Kumasi recently by officials of the ministry and regional directors of agriculture.

Mr Okai said farmers would be educated and encouraged to apply fertiliser on their farms to ensure better yield to reduce the cost of food in the country.

It is recalled that President J. A. Kufuor announced during his state broadcast last week, a package to subsidise fertiliser as a way of promoting increased food production.
