FIVE persons are reported killed and 24 houses burnt following communal violence between the Mamprusis and Bimobas at Yunyoo, a farming community in the Bunkprugu-Yunyoo District of the Northern Region.
Many residents, mostly women and children, are fleeing the conflict which involved exchange of gun fire.
The District Co-ordinating Director, Yussif Ibrahim, who spoke to the Times described the situation as volatile and said security personnel have been deployed to the area to restore calm.
An unspecified number of people with weapons have been arrested, he added.
At press time yesterday, the Northern Region Security Council was meeting in an emergency session over the incident.
