Mr Stephen Asamoah-Boateng, New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Mfantseman West was on Monday re-elected to contest the Parliamentary election.
Mr Asamoah–Boateng, who is also Minister for Information and National Orientation polled 116 out of the 120 votes cast at the primaries held at Southern Ghana Bible College Hall at Kromantsi.
Two other contestants, Mr Kweku Yamoah Paintsil, a Legal Practitioner who contested in absentia, polled two votes, while Ms Victoria Awuah, a Tourism Industry Operator had a vote, and a ballot paper was rejected.
However, some of the delegates were not happy that the date for the primaries was changed thrice after it was originally fixed for Sunday, May 25 by the National Executive Committee, it was changed to Wednesday, May 28 and then to Monday May 26.
The Constituency Executive Committee maintained that enough publicity was given on the new date, as a circular was sent to the delegates, aspirants and radio announcements made but 25 out of the 145 delegates failed to turn up.
Ms Awuah who arrived when the balloting was mid-way, challenged the authenticity of the circular, since according to her it was signed by the Secretary and not the Constituency Chairman.
Mr Kwamena Duncan, Central Regional Secretary of NPP, explained that the NPP Constitution allowed one–third of members of any group present at a meeting to form a quorum to transact business, and that since the delegates were duly informed about the change of date, the primaries was legal.
Mr Asamoah-Boateng expressed gratitude to the delegates for giving him the chance to stand again on the ticket of the Party and pledged to continue with the programmes he had initiated.
He appealed to all and sundry to bury their differences and unite to help ensure the Party's victory in the Constituency.
Mr Abekah Hagan, Mfantseman Municipal Electoral Officer supervised the election.
