The Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital on Wednesday, embarked on a demolition exercise to rid the hospital's premises of kiosks and containers which the hospital says have become a nuisance.

The demolition of the kiosks sited around the administration block, was necessitated by the failure of the owners to remove them in spite of warnings by the management.

In an interview with the Times, the public relations officer of the Hospital, Mustapha Salifu, said the activities of people operating kiosks and stores in the area have worsened the sanitation situation on the premises of the hospital.

'The hospital is meant to care for the sick and not to worsen their condition therefore such activities must not be encouraged,' he said.

A student from GIMPA, Francis Yebouh, who is a victim, told the Times that the hospital had failed to look for a new place for them to relocate.

He said the manage-ment collects GH¢2 from them each month and wondered why the sudden decision to demolish their structures.

Another victim who operates a drinking bar, Francisca Onuma, complained bitterly about the items she lost during the demolishing exercise.

Francisca said she does not know how she is going to survive with her family as a result of the loss.
