The Winneba district Police Command has ordered people riding on unlicensed motorbikes and vehicles to get them registered immediately before the law caught up with them.
Mr. Jordan Quaye, Winneba District Police Commander gave the order in
press statement he issued in Winneba.
Mr. Quaye said in the statement that; "it is an offence to drive or ride
any vehicle or motor bike without a license plate".
According to him users of unlicensed motorbikes may be mistaken for armed robbers and dealt with accordingly, adding, "police would not wait for such things to happen".
"The police is therefore warning all users of unlicensed bikes and vehicles to report to police stations to explain their situation or be regarded as deliberately using such facilities to commit crimes such as robbery".
The statement said the police would no long tolerate the use of unlicensed vehicles and motorbike and appealed to them to register their motorbikes and vehicles to avoid trouble.
Mr. Quaye cautioned women and girls not to accept lifts by unlicensed vehicles and motor bikes because they could sometime fall in the hands of criminals.
He therefore urged the public to report those using unregistered vehicles and motorbikes in the municipality to the police for action.
The Police Commander appealed to owners of such vehicles who are finding it difficult to register them to contact the police for assistance.
