Listen to article

Credit Unions in Central Region have formed an association called Managers of Credit Union Society to share ideas on success stories and challenges facing them.
At their maiden meeting at Cape Coast on Wednesday, a seven-member executive was elected with Mr James Yamoah and Mr Samuel Asare as President and Vice respectively.
Other members were Mr Stephen Y. Yankey, Organising Secretary, Mr Michael Agbeyebiawo, Secretary, Mr Kingsley Arko Sam, Treasurer, Mr Alfred Abban and Mr Ransford Ninso Mensah as Assistant Secretary and Financial Secretary respectively.
In his acceptance speech, Mr Yamoah urged Board of Directors of the various Societies not to regard the Association as a pressure group formed to undermine their authorities, but rather as a partner in promoting the Credit Union concept.
He expressed gratitude to the members for the confidence reposed in the executive and assured that they would not let them down but would work hard to improve the Society in the Region.
Mr Samuel K. Annor, Central Regional Manager of the Credit Union Association who inducted the executives into office, said the springing up of financial institutions and micro credit groups in the country, enjoined managers and boards of Credit Unions to be more innovative.
