By Samuel Agbewode, Kpetoe - Ghanaian Chronicle

It was indeed a sight to see when the flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and Mr. Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, buried their differences and decided to embark on a campaign tour of the Volta Region.

The two gentlemen set the region ablaze, with people trooping from their homes and offices, to catch a glimpse of them.
At the Adaklu-Anyigbe district, Nana Addo and his entourage were given a rousing welcome, by the chiefs and people of the area, as hundreds of people, including party supporters, poured into the streets amidst wild jubilation.

The chiefs organised a durbar in honour of Nana Addo and the NPP.

Immediately the two arrived at the durbar grounds, the whole place burst with emotional rapture, amidst shouting of “Nana oo Nana; Cash in the pocket; Jobs for the people.”

The visit to the area formed part of a three week tour of the candidate, to the twenty-one orphan constituencies in the region.

The first day of the tour, took Nana Addo and his entourage to Kpedze in the Ho West, Kpetoe, Ho-East and Ho central.

Speaking at separate durbars, at Kpedze and Ho, Nana Akufo Addo explained that his decision to stay for three weeks in the region was due to the fact that it was the most difficult region, where the people normally failed to vote for the NPP.

During the period of his stay in the region, he noted that he and the party would make a conscious effort, to reconcile with the people of the region, to help win more votes in the forthcoming elections.

The NPP presidential candidate stressed that the Volta Region continued to pose a threat to his party, until it offered one seat, in the Nkwanta-North Constituency, to the NPP, stressing that the party was poised to work hard, to consolidate the gains made so far.

Nana Akufo Addo said the people of the Volta Region were noted for their hard work, faithfulness and love for one another, which he said, were the values and traits of his party, the NPP.

He thus told the people, that the time had come for the people in the region, to join the NPP, to build a prosperous nation, by voting massively for the party to continue with, what he described as, its laudable development programmes.

Further, he noted that both the NPP and the NDC have had two terms in the governance of the country, stressing that Ghanaians would be in better position to determine, which of the two parties had positively impacted on the lives of the people.

The choice, he said, was obvious, since according to him, the NPP had performed more creditably than its opponent the NDC, hence the need for Ghanaians to give the NPP a third term under him, to continue with the firm foundation laid by President Kufuor.

Nana Akufo-Addo assured the Voltarians, that the next NPP government would enhance development of the country, without any form of discrimination.

He thus asked the people disabuse their minds of the propaganda being peddled by elements of the NDC, to the effect that the NPP was an Akan party, emphasising that the NPP had always been a national party.

Whilst admitting the recent increase in petroleum prices, throughout the world, was having a toll on the lives of Ghanaians, he urged the people to continue to be tolerant with government, with the hope of making amends.

At Kpetoe, the large crowd admired, what could be described as an affectionate discussion, between Nana Akufo Addo and Mr. Alan Kyeremanten on the dais, which some people said, could be about the way forward for the NPP to win the elections.

They described this as a healthy development for the party, in its quest to retain power.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Kyeremanten assured Ghanaians that the only person who could continue to implement sound development programmes for the country, was Nana Akufo-Addo, and asked Ghanaians not to make any mistake, by voting for any other person, except the NPP flagbearer.

With him, he said the future would be brighter for the country.

He mentioned the School Feeding Programme, Capitation Grant, the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), and infrastructure development in the education and road sectors, as some of the achievements chalked by the NPP government, within the past seven years that it has been in power.

According to him, more development programmes, have been structured by the party, to help improve the lives of the people.

The Paramount Chief of Kpedze Traditional area, Togbe Atsredom V, lauded the development activities of the NPP, and assured Nana and the NPP, that the old order had changed, giving way to the new, as many people now could differentiate between the present and the past, saying the perception that the VoltaR belonged to a particular party, was a mere assertion.

Present at the function were the Volta Regional Minister, Mr. Samuel Kofi Dzamesi, the Regional Chairman of the NPP and Deputy Minister for Youth and Employment, Mr. Kenwuud Nuworsu, and a number of District Chief Executives (DCEs), among others.
