A circuit Court in Kumasi has sentenced a 39-year-old Besease area council secretary in the Ejisu Juaben District of Ashanti to 20 years imprisonment for defiling a nine-year-old girl.

Kwadwo Asante pleaded guilty to the charge and was convicted on his own plea.

Police Chief Inspector Comfort Baffour-Kyei told the court presided over by Mr Richard Mac Kogyapwah that both victim and convict lived in the same vicinity at Akyeremade near Ejisu.

Prosecution said on May 5, this year, at about 3.30 p.m., Asante who saw the girl around a drinking spot playing, gave her soft drink, lured her home and defiled her.

Chief Inspector Baffour-Kyei said Asante threatened the victim that if she disclosed the ordeal to anyone she would die.

Prosecution said the victim went home and bled from her private part and collapsed.

Chief Inspector Baffour-Kyei said the victim’s mother took her to the Ejisu Hospital but she was referred to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Hospital.

Prosecution said a medical report indicated that the girl had been defiled.
