By Stephen Odoi-Larbi - Ghanaian Chronicle

Town Gas Ghana Limited, has rolled out fiberglass composite Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders into the Ghanaian market, with a call on people to purchase the products in order to reduce the cost of managing steel cylinders. The company is committed to make LPG gas safer and comfortable to all Ghanaians irrespective of their locations.

Town Gas Ghana Limited, an oil and gas company, introduced the new LPG cylinders into the market, with headquarters in Nigeria.

The cylinder is made of fiberglass composite and plastic, and is light in weight and transparent to detect the level of gas in the cylinder.

Mr. Ige Izyk Belo, Chief Responsibility Officer, Town Gas Ghana Limited, in a press briefing in Accra described the product as the safest mode of cooking in the 21st century that would avert sub-standard, expired, corroded, recycled and poorly fabricated cylinders on the market.

“This item you are seeing is the safest cooking item in the world, it is non-corrosive, does not explode in fire, can withstand a drop of 4m and is very transparent to enable you see your gas level”, he noted.

He said the transparent nature of the cylinder is to ensure that users are able to monitor the gas level so that they do not run out of it unexpectedly.

To him, consumers don't see what they buy because the market is flooded with non-identification of marketers, who make lots of money at the expense of consumers.

To this effect, he advised agent and distributors of LPG cylinders to be duly registered with the appropriate body in order not to flood the market with inferior and fake products.

According to him- corroded, expired, sub-standard and fabricated cylinders lead to disaster and it would therefore be suicidal if consumers continue to patronise them.

ISO 9001, the Ghana Standards Board (GSB), Standards Organisation of Nigeria, Norway, Togo, Europe, South Africa and the United States of America (USA) certify the product.

The cylinder was manufactured by RAGASCO Company, notably known for nuclear production in Norway. It has a lifespan of thirty years according to the Ghana Standards Board.

The cylinders come in sizes of 12.5kg and 5kg and have an inside liner for maximum safety and is protected to withstand bad weather conditions, according to Mr. Belo. Its regulators are Cavalna Company in Italy.
