MANAGEMENT AND Board of MTN Ghana Foundation will this morning, perform the official launch of the Foundation's Health Flagship Project in Accra.

The Foundation, a model established by MTN Ghana to undertake the effective administration of its corporate social responsibility contributions, has since selected the second floor of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital Maternity Block for renovation.

MTN Ghana would provide a total of US$600,000 for the project, aimed at facilitating improved health care for expectant mothers and infants at the hospital.

It is being implemented in partnership with the Women's Caucus of Parliament and the Ministry of Health (MOH).

The Foundation's yet-to-be-launched flagship health project did not only take cognisance of the fact that the hospital's Maternity Block lacks essential facilities like additional labour wards, operating theatres and modern equipment for efficient service delivery but also the essential role it plays as the national referral point for the provision of critical and specialised maternal health care.

“Promoting a better future for our women and babies is vital to national development and we are happy that the resources MTN is making available through the Foundation can be put to such good use.

“MTN is expressing its commitment to partnering with other key stakeholders to support national efforts at improving the quality of life of the Ghanaian populace”, stated Professor Franklin Manu, Chairman of the Board of MTN Ghana Foundation.

The main focus areas of the new project, he added, include health and education.

“MTN's business objectives do not only include contributing to socio-economic development, but collaborating with government to support national efforts to improve the well-being of the Ghanaian populace”, noted Mr. Brett Goshen, Chief Executive Officer of the company.

The Foundation was officially launched at a ceremony in Accra late last year.
