‘Stop Abortion’

THE PASTOR in charge of the Compassion is Love in Action Orphanage (CILIA), Gideon Acheampong, has called on women to desist from sinful acts such as abortion and child abandonment.

The pastor, who made the call in an interview at Yawhima near Sunyani, advised that such women should rather trust the Lord and believe in his protection and provision.

He noted that though most women as well as teenage girls were left to care for themselves after being made pregnant by their partners, it was not right for them to either abort or abandon the child after birth.

Pastor Acheampong said it was better for parents to send their children to an orphanage or foster home than dump them in gutters, refuse dumps and in the bush, adding that God was going to punish them if they do not repent and ask for forgiveness.

He however blamed runaway men who impregnated women and left them to their own fate as the major cause of such illicit acts.

He said out of frustration, the women were forced to do the unthinkable. The pastor observed that if only men would be a little more responsible in their relationships, Ghana would have less of such cases.

He called on all Christians to use the Easter period to decipher the saving grace of the Lord Jesus Christ who through his death and resurrection had reconciled the world to the creator.

He noted that there was nothing impossible for Jesus, and that “Jesus alone has the solution to the world's entire problem.”

He argued that no government would ever be able to solve the problems of mankind except God, and therefore cautioned the public against complaints that times were hard.

Instead, he said, “We ought to be grateful to the man up there who has seen us through the year as we celebrate another Easter.”

Pastor Acheampong hoped that the celebrations would be peaceful and solemn.

He called on government to use the period to ask of the Lord the way forward for the country.

Pastor Acheampong used the opportunity to thank all those who through diverse means had contributed greatly either in cash or kind towards the running of CILIA, and asked them not to relent on their efforts but continue to support the institution to grow.

He disclosed that currently, there were almost 40 children being accommodated by CILIA.
