The tenth annual retirees' awards ceremony for retired staff of Ghana Telecom was held Friday night. In all 115 distinguish senior citizens of the company, ranging from Chief Managers, Managers, Assistant Managers, Principal Officers, Senior Officers, Officers, Assistant Officers and Assistants were honoured.

In her welcome address, Stella Appiah-Nkansah, Chief Officer for Human Resource Management, GT, said the essence of the awards ceremony is to recognise and appreciate the contribution and collective effort of the retired officers to bring the company this far.

She noted that most of the retirees have spent the finest part of their working lives with the company; while others have also given the company their efforts no matter how briefly they have served.

"Presents you will be receiving tonight cannot repay the decades of your dedicated service to GT. These are only symbolic gestures indicating to friends, loved ones and families, that your contribution to this company was recognised and appreciated," she added.

On his part, the Chief Executive Officer of GT, D Oduro-Nyaning, held that it is no gainsaying that the growth and development of any organisation in a competitive and dynamic environment depends on the hard work and strong commitment of its employees.

He said it is in view of this reality that GT is honouring the retired staff for keeping faith with the company and working tirelessly to put the company on this pedestal.

Advising the retirees, the CEO said "In retirement, you will find yourselves operating from outside the company premises. Some of you may even become customers of GT and you will for the first time view the company with an eye of an outsider. You will then see how people you have served in your working life feel about GT's services. Consequently, you will be better placed to appreciate their joys and frustrations."

He said life in retirement will present a lot of challenges, but the way one handles the situation will determined whether one will maintain or even develop his physical fitness to enjoy the rest of his life.

All the retirees were given certificates of honour and other prizes including a double door LG refrigerator, a table top LG refrigerator, a 21 inch LG colour TV, and a 14 inch LG colour TV.
