We Need More Strikers- Le Roy
28.03.2008 LISTEN

Ghana coach Claude Le Roy says the local national team would help him find other striking options as the Black Stars build up for the 2010 World Cup/Africa Nations Cup qualifying campaign in June.

The Black Stars would begin the qualifiers at home in Kumasi on June 1 with a game against Libya.

After sitting through Ghana's 2-1 defeat in a friendly international against Mexico at Fulham's Craven Cottage ground on Wednesday, Le Roy reviews his striking options, saying, Ghana has to be more efficient up front.

"We do have a problem with (striking) efficiency. It was the same problem in the Nations Cup," Le Roy said.

And way before the World Cup/Africa Nations Cup qualifying date, Le Roy would be busy this weekend when he leads the local national team to begin the qualifiers for the new African Nations Championship.

Ghana plays Niger at home in the preliminary round qualifiers of the tournament designed by CAF for players who play in the various domestic leagues in Africa.

As he prepares to line up his local team for the game against Niger in Tamale on Sunday, Le Roy says the domestic team will create a new level of competition for places in the Black Stars.

"Strikers are always under pressure. We have to review all our strikers - that's why there's a local national team - to try to find a striker to try to put pressure on the strikers in the team.

"We have more outside strikers, but we are missing inside strikers." Ghanafa.org
