Teshie Water Board inaugurated

The Teshie water board which would manage the distribution of water supply by Aqua Vitens Rand Limited was on Tuesday inaugurated in Accra. The water for life project would see to it that the unavailability of water by the people of Teshie is minimised.

The Regional Chief Manager of Accra East Region of Aqua Viten Rand Limited, Daniel Moumaalah said that Aqua Vitens Rand Limited would not stick religiously to the dictates of the contract signed but prefers to operate with a human face by casting the coverage net wider to cater for all Ghanaians.

He therefore appealed to Ghanaians and the parties involved in the Teshie water for life project to support the programme and live up to their various roles and responsibilities to ensure that the project is sustained to improve water supply to the average Ghanaian at affordable rates.

He urged the parties involved to be committed to transparency and accountability to ensure the distribution of water to all part of Teshie.

Speaking at the inauguration, Kwaku Sekyi Addo, the Liaison Manager of Aqua Vitens Rand, said Water for Life is an independent foundation founded by Vitens in the Netherlands, as a fundraising concept, offering customers a possibility to support international activities of Vitens on voluntary basis with financial support from water for life to undertake project to provide better water supply for the urban poor.

He said the overall goal is to access water and to manage urban water supply facilities and service in a low income and underserved area in Ghana in a sustainable manner. Those projects include actions such as pipe extension, mechanizing boreholes and construction of public selling points.

He explained that the water for life project has started with one in the Brong-Ahafo Region, two in the Upper East Region and one in Nsutra, for a total amount of 400.00 Euros. These four projects will supply water to an estimated twenty thousand people

He said three projects are waiting for approval to serve water to an estimated thirty thousand people, saying more proposals will be undertaken.
