Schools SMS Communications Introduced

A web-based system which enables school administrators and teachers to communicate directly with parents has been introduced in a number of schools in Accra.

The facility, known as Schools SMS Communications Solutions, thus provides a healthy relationship between school authorities and parents by facilitating the flow of information between them.

About 20 schools in the Greater Accra Region are currently using the facility, which was introduced by e-toys and more, a company which deals in products for children.

Speaking to the Junior Graphic, Mr George Sackey, Executive President of the company, said the new facility would help bridge the communication gap that had existed for a long time between parents and school authorities.

He explained that very often when letters were sent to parents, some schoolchildren forgot to deliver them and, as a result, important information did not reach parents on time.

Mr Sackey said with the school SMS, the schools will have the mobile phone numbers of every parent and any information on the child, including academic performance, truancy, his or her behaviour, among others, would be sent to each parent on his or her mobile phone by the school authorities.

He said his company was bent on providing the educational needs of children through technology, while entertaining them at the same time and that “is why we come up with innovations to assist schools as often as we can”, he added.

He said the facility, which was being used in South Africa and the UK, had proved efficient, and expressed optimism that many schools would subscribe to it.
