Government would pay the fees for teachers who undertake Diploma in Basic Education under the Distant Education Programme from this year.

The measure is to help ease the financial burden of Certificate 'A' teachers compelled to upgrade their qualification under the programme.

Mr Kwadwo Mpiani, Chief of Staff and Minister for Presidential Affairs announced this when addressing the 36th Speech and Prize Giving Day of Juaben Senior High School at Juaben in the Ejisu-Juaben Municipality in the Ashanti Region at the weekend.

He stressed the need for teachers to upgrade their competency to meet the challenges of the New Educational Reforms to succeed.

Mr Mpiani said Government recognised the crucial and important roles teachers played to facilitate socio-economic development and would endeavour to improve on their conditions of service.

He pledged Government's determination to make education more attractive to every Ghanaian child by providing educational and learning materials to schools.

Very Reverend Isaac Osei Boadi, Headmaster of the school, appealed to government to provide the school with an Assembly Hall, classrooms, dormitories, an ICT and a library.

He commended the teaching and non-teaching staff for their hard work and maximum cooperation during the year which had enhanced teaching and learning in the school.

Mr Akwasi Osei-Adjei, Member of Parliament for Ejisu-Juaben and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and NEPAD advised the students to take their education serious to justify the huge investments from government and their parents.
