SERGEANT GABRIEL Owusu Afriyie of the 6th Battalion Infantry in Tamale, who was gruesomely murdered by his colleague on November 27, 2007, has been buried at the Osu Military Cemetery with full military honours.

The late sergeant, commonly called Sally Pee, was enlisted into the Ghana Armed Forces in 1991 as a bandsman and posted to the Kamina Barracks, Tamale.

Sally Pee, described by his colleagues as noble, devoted and hardworking, rose through the ranks until his tragic death last year.

Tears flowed freely down the checks of hundreds of mourners, mostly soldiers, family members and friends, as the volley was fired, followed by the sounding of the last post.

Sadly, his wife, who is receiving treatment at the Tamale Hospital, could not come to the burial.

Corporal Kojo Kwakye was said to have killed his superior officer over a GH¢200 debt and further pumped several bullets into the arms and thighs of the wife, Mrs. Monica Owusu-Afriyie and their 17-year-old daughter, Hannah, without any provocation.

Soon after committing the unpardonable offence, Cpl. Kwakye went into hiding but was arrested, detained in a guardroom and later handed over to the police.

The late Sergeant Owusu Afriyie left behind a wife and five children.
