The Northern Region Poverty Reduction Programme, NORPREP, has donated four vehicles to four districts in the region to support the implementation of its supported activities. The beneficiary districts include Yendi, East Gonja, West Mamprusi and Sawla-Tuna Kalba. The vehicles cost more than 74 thousand Ghana cedis. Speaking at a handing over ceremony in Tamale, Northern regional Minister, Alhaji Mustapha Ali Iddris said the presentation is just the first lot of vehicles to be given to the district in the region, adding that four districts will receive theirs by the end of the month. He advised the beneficiary districts to use the vehicles for their intended purposes. Alhaji Mustapha Iddris expressed the hope that the vehicles will intensify the monitoring and reporting on NORPREP supported projects in order to complete them on schedule. He entreated the DCEs to insure the vehicles, since accident rates are high in the country. Speaking on behalf of the beneficiary districts, the District Chief Executive for West Mamprusi, Nabla Sulemana thanked the Regional Minister and NORPREP officials for the gesture. He assured the Minister that the vehicles will be used for their intended purposes, saying that it will help them to visit project sites regularly to ensure that projects are completed on time. NORPREP was established under a loan agreement between the Government of Ghana and the International Fund for Agricultural Development, IFAD. It aims at improving the livelihoods and living conditions of poor rural communities in Northern Ghana, emphasizing on women and vulnerable groups. The project has undertaken numerous development activities in the 18 districts in the region, including the construction of 173 boreholes, five dams, 52 educational facilities, 370 household toilets and one storage facility.
