MORE THAN 60 policemen are to be deployed in Suhum to combat the high crime wave in the area.

The District Commander of Police, Deputy Superintendent E.K. Amoako disclosed this at a meeting with watchmen/security personnel and their employers following the recent spate of murders in Suhum.

Mr Amoako, who was not happy with how some of the watchmen executed their work, mentioned that some of them got drunk before coming to work and therefore slept in the night, thus allowing criminals to attack and kill them.

He said investigations conducted indicated that some of the watchmen killed recently were asleep, which was why they could not see their assailants.

Mr Amoako urged the employers of the watchmen to contact the police for the necessary education and needed assistance to enable them deal with the criminals without fear.

Some of the watchmen also blamed their employers for poor service conditions, adding that they were denied their annual leave also. GNA
