Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture in charge of Livestock, Anna
Nyamekye, has appealed to the chiefs and people in Jaman South to guard
against practices that could cause bush fires in the area during the
dry season.
In an interview with Radio Ghana, Miss Nyamekye who is the MP for the
area, said no bush fires had been recorded in the constituency since
2001. She commended the District Assembly, chiefs, opinion leaders,
religious bodies and the citizenry for the good record and urged them
to maintain it because the menace had caused famine and poverty in the
area. Miss Nyamekye commended the efforts of soldiers deployed to
assist fire officers and fire volunteers to check the incidence of
bushfires in the area every year. She said patrols by the security
personnel had been very helpful as cocoa trees that were previously
destroyed have bounced back.
