The District Chief Executive for Mfantseman, Robert Quainoo-Arthur has
appealed to the West Africa Examinations Council to reconsider its
decision to make re-sitters of the Basic Education Certificate
Examination to write all subjects instead of those they failed in. Mr.
Quainoo-Arthur said if the decision is not reversed it will deprive
most of the nation's future leaders the chance to further their
education. He made the appeal at the First Ordinary Meeting of the
second session of the fourth Assembly in Saltpond in reaction to a
report that eight Junior High Schools in the district scored zero
percent in the last BECE. He said measures are being taken by the
District Directorate of the Ghana Education Service and the District
Assembly to improve quality of education in the area. The Member of
Parliament for Mfantseman East, called on members of the Assembly to
always think about things which could bring development to the people
rather than those which could divide them.
