Briefing our correspondent in Ashaiman, the District Commander, DSP Frank Awu, said the three hour swoop which started around 8pm, was aimed at ridding the Ashaiman Township of criminals and discouraging prostitution to ensure a safe and crime free Ghana 2008 tournament. He said the exercise took place at Asensu Bar, Night Market, Odaseni Bar and Zongo-Laka all suburbs of Ashaiman. DSP Awu added that the exercise will be continued to other areas to ensure visitors, who are in the country for the tournament, are not attacked by some hardened criminals and unscrupulous persons. Meanwhile a hardened criminal, Ibrahim Baiden who was released from the cells by the Chief Justice for being in custody unduly has been rearrested for possessing Indian hemp.
