The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in conjunction with a surgical team from the International Volunteers in Urology of the USA would provide free surgery for children with abnormal genital organs and other congenital malformations of the genitourinary tracts from January 14 to January 20 at the hospital.

Children expected to benefit from the surgery are those born with both male and female sex organs, hermaphrodites. The specialist in charge of the Urology Unit at the hospital, Dr Ken Aboah said a screening exercise to select beneficiaries would commence on Monday and end on Friday.

He said about 40 children are expected to undergo surgery and urged parents of babies with malformed sex organs to take advantage of the opportunity and refer them for the screening and subsequent surgery. Dr Aboah said parents whose children are covered by health insurance would not pay anything, all others would pay a token fee.
