Jerry Akaminko, captain of Ghanaian side, Heart of Lions, is set to join Maccabi Tel Aviv.

The 22-year-old is currently undergoing medical tests with the top capital based side and is likely to strike a deal after impressing on trials.

Akaminko, a youth international, was controversially axed from Ghana?s Peru 2005 under-17 team and is currently part of the national men?s Olympic football team.

His move to Israel comes after the opening of the European transfer market on Tuesday.

The versatile defender?s proposed move to Benfica last year fell through after a late arrival of his International Transfer Certificate even though he had a successful trial stint with the Portuguese side.

He will become the third Ghanaian player to join Maccabi after Ishmael Addo and John Paintsil made Champions League appearances for the club during the 2004/2005 season.

Hearts of Lions are currently second on Ghana?s league table after eight matches.
