Certificate ‘A’ teachers urged to upgrade themselves

Mr. Kenneth Osei-Yaw, Asante-Akim South District Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), has urged teachers currently holding certificate 'A' to take advantage of various top-up programmes to upgrade themselves.

He said the programmes were crucial to their careers since they would not only improve their salaries but also ensure better retirement packages.

Mr Osei-Yaw, who was addressing some teachers at Adomfe near Bompata at the weekend, underscored the role of teachers in the new educational reforms, which, he said largely centred on the teacher.

He observed that teachers' failure to effectively play their role could be detrimental to the success of the reforms and implored them to give of their best.

The District GNAT Secretary further entreated the teachers to desist from drinking alcohol during school hours in order to earn respect from their pupils since they were role models in society.

He noted with regret the activities of some teachers, which he said was tarnishing the image of the noble profession and called on teachers to help reverse the trend.

Mr. Alex Anyan, President of the Asante-Akim South District Headteachers Association, urged his colleagues to live above reproach and work hard to improve the academic performance of the district.
