500+ Cops to thwart crime.

About 500 police personnel and an additional personnel of the Community Protection Unit (CPU), under the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP), have been positioned in readiness to combat crime in Accra during this Christmas season.

Speaking about the Accra Regional Police Command's readiness to reduce the crime wave in the Accra Metropolis, the Deputy Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kwesi Appiah Boateng, said that there had been a reduction in the crime rates, to which he attributed the sustained police patrols of sections of the metropolis.

He said this action was taken to beef up security in order to reduce crimes to the barest maximum particularly in areas recording high crime rates and called on the general public to be alert and report suspicious characters whose presence posed a danger to members of the public especially during this festive season.

He also commented on the current traffic situation in the metropolis, saying that even though there was very little the police could do about it, the exceptional presence of the CPU's at various traffic locations had greatly helped instill traffic discipline in the metropolis.

ACP Boateng thus praised the CPU's contribution towards ensuring vehicular discipline on our roads, indicating that their service was invaluable and as such, road users and the general public owed it a right to respect and obey them.
