More Work Ahead•Nana Addo
FOLLOWING HIS election as the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), several people across the length and breadth of the country have sent congratulatory messages to Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
One of such persons is Mr. Joseph Nana Addo, a Sunyani-based businessman, who was visibly elated about the hard won victory of Nana Akufo-Addo.
In an interview with DAILY GUIDE, Mr. Addo encouraged the flagbearer not to forget the promises he made to party faithful and the country at large.
He noted that Akufo-Addo's tour of the entire country would have afforded him the opportunity to be abreast with certain problems or needs peculiar to each region.
He advised him to keep those peculiarities in mind and work towards solving such problems when he is eventually elected the president of the country.
Nana Addo advised the NPP flagbearer not to be complacent but intensify his campaign towards his ultimate goal of becoming the next president of Ghana because in his view, there is more work to be done.
He noted that there was the need to break into the strongholds of the opposition, while consolidating the NPP's strongholds.
The well-wisher also urged Akufo-Addo to relate well with the other presidential aspirants of the opposition parties in order to avoid any situation that would fuel rancor and animosity among their rank and file.
He believed that this was not the time for jubilation but rather a moment to go back to the drawing-board and come up with a concrete policy framework, possibly drawn from the manifestoes of all the other sixteen aspirants.
This is the time the political prowess and bravery Mr. Akufo-Addo had always exhibited must come into play, Mr. Addo said.
Another well wisher, who pleaded anonymity, celebrated Akufo-Addo as the right man to lead the country to her desired status.
He called on Ghanaians not to make the mistake of bringing the NDC back to power.
The middle-aged man noted that the NDC's ideals were no more relevant in today's politics, and asserted that their place is in opposition.
He said the election of Akufo-Addo was the best Christmas present for the people of Ghana and urged all to vote massively for him in the coming general elections.
Asked if there would not be a second round contest in the 2008 elections, he contended that Ghanaians would never make that mistake again because they had seen the good works of NPP and would vote for NPP one touch come 2008.
He argued that the PNC and the DFP as well as the CPP do not have the capacity to form a government and called on their leaders to rather rally around the NPP for a better Ghana.
He said the NDC would soon realize how unpopular it has become over the years after the 2008 elections. From Rocklyn Antonio, Sunyani
