
THE NEW Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate for the 2008 general elections, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has fervently prayed for Almighty God's guidance in his bid to become the president of the nation.
He has therefore passionately appealed to Muslims in the country to support him in prayers as he prepares to embark on a nationwide campaign to retain political power for the NPP, and continue with the good works of President Kufuor.
“My dear Muslim brothers, whenever you go down on your knees, please remember Nana Akufo-Addo and pray for peaceful, Godfearing heart and Allah's divine protection for me as I seek to be President of Ghana,” he said.
Nana Akufo-Addo made the appeal last Friday at the Central Mosque when he joined Muslims in Kumasi, the Ashanti regional capital to thank Allah for his triumph in the NPP flagbearership race.
The NPP presidential aspirant's visit to the mosque was to thank the Muslim brethren in the region for their unflinching support and prayers which ensured his success.
Nana Akufo-Addo's historic visit was also to announce to Muslims in the region, and for that matter Ghana, his nomination as NPP presidential candidate in the upcoming elections.
He expressed his profound gratitude and appreciation to Muslims across the country, saying, “I deeply appreciate your support and numerous assistance ever since I showed interest in leading the NPP in the 2008 general elections.”
Nana Akufo-Addo appealed to Muslims to support him wholeheartedly both in body and spirit to enable him realize his ambition of leading the country to the Promised Land in the shortest possible time.
He showered praises on President Kufuor for performing excellently so far, stressed that he was the right person to continue with the good works of the President and called for the support of all and sundry.
The NPP presidential aspirant contended that President Kufuor has laid a perfect foundation for easy and rapid transformation of the country, and promised to work tirelessly to take Ghana to newer heights when elected president.
Nana Akufo-Addo, who frowns on tribal and religion-based politics, promised to embark on a clean campaign for the presidency which would be devoid of insults and insinuations.
Earlier on Thursday, the Abuakwa-South MP, in the company of his campaign team paid a courtesy call on the occupant of the Golden Stool, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at a colourful ceremony at the Manhyia Palace.
The timely visit by Nana Akufo-Addo was to thank Otumfuo for his excellent counsel to him when he made known his intentions to vie for the NPP flagbearership slot.
From Manhyia Palace, Nana Akufo-Addo paid similar visits to leading members of the party in the region to thank them for their support which aided him immensely to sail through as the flagbearer of the NPP in the upcoming elections.
