FRAGA OIL Company Limited, an indigenous Ghanaian oil marketing company, is poised to take advantage of the numerous opportunities under the 'Golden Age of Business' declared by President John Agyekum Kufuor on his assumption of office in 2001 to empower local companies to compete favourably with big foreign businesses in Ghana.
The company therefore continues to grow in the oil marketing business and as a sign of its expansion, commissioned a multi-billion-cedi, ultra-modern filling station at Denu in the Ketu District of the Volta Region over the weekend to offer the people of the area and all motorists plying the Aflao-Accra road the right quality and quantity of oil products.
The magnificent edifice is the 49th filling station to be built by the company, with “Fraga Oil @ 50” soon to be commissioned at Kasoa in the Central Region.
Commissioning the Denu filling station, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Fraga Oil Company Ltd., Torgbui Sri III stated that the decision to site the company close to the community was to impact positively on the lives of the people by providing them with quality service while contemporaneously offering job opportunities to the many unemployed youth of the community.
“Fraga Oil wants to assure the community that not only will it team up with government in developing the country but it will also provide assistance such as scholarships to brilliant but needy students in this area,” he stressed.
According to Torgbui Sri III, who is also the Awoamefia of the Anlo Traditional Area, the company was ready to use resources generated from the sale of oil products from the filling station to develop the community.
He urged other local companies to seize the opportunities being offered by the government and make their presence felt in the business community by providing quality service to Ghanaians.
Torgbui Sri III assured motorists and clients that the company was aware of adulterated fuel being sold by some filling stations and assured clients that Fraga Oil would not indulge in such a despicable act.
He thanked the government for creating the enabling environment for local companies to thrive but stressed that there was the need to do more.
Torgbui Sri III promised drivers that the company's staff would adhere and operate strictly according to its guidelines and that any staff at the station who would show any sign of indiscipline or disrespect to clients would face the music.
On request to operate a 24-hour service, Torgbui Sri III promised to liaise with the security services to assess the security situation in the area and if the need arose the company would not hesitate to render a 24-hour service.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Petroleum Authority, John Dekyem Attafuah commended Fraga Oil for establishing filling stations all over the country, offering job opportunities to the youth and thereby helping in government's poverty reduction efforts.
He urged management of the company to work hard to live up to their avowed aim of providing quality products to the people to continue to win their trust.
Mr. Attafuah attested to the operational qualities of Fraga Oil, describing it as one of the few local companies that had braced the storm and succeeded against multinational companies.
On his part, the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Ketu District, Justice Kudjo noted that the Fraga Oil Filling Station was the most significant and magnificent filling station in the district.
He commended Torgbui Sri III for boldly accepting the challenge to do business in Ghana without the slightest fear of having his property seized by any government.
Mr. Kudjo observed that the emergence of Fraga Oil as an indigenous company was a manifestation of Ghana's Golden Age of Business, stressing that such companies needed to be supported.
He mentioned that the Aflao-Sogakope portion of the Accra-Aflao road would soon be completed to make traveling on that road smooth.
Torgbui Hor II, the Makorsor of the Somey Traditional Area, who chaired the function, described Torgbui Sri III as a man who had good intentions for his people.
He said only a person with a good heart would do what the Awoamefia of Anlo was doing for his people.
Torgbui Hor called on Anlos to rally behind their King to bring development to the community in order to help eradicate poverty in the Anlo Traditional Area.
A tape was cut to officially commission the filling station and as part of a promotion, the first 100 vehicles were served free fuel.
In another promotion which would last for six months, motorists who would buy not less than 200 gallons per month at the filling station could win refrigerators, television sets, sewing machines, standing fans, sound systems, pressing irons and other mouth-watering prizes.
