Police urged to get facts right before going to court

The Presiding Circuit Court Judge in Techiman, Godwin Kwasi Kumah, has called on the police and prosecutors to make thorough investigations on suspects before arraigning them before court. He noted that prosecutors normally lose their cases in court because of improper presentation of cases as expected by judges.

Mr. Kumah made the observation when he acquitted and discharged four suspects from Kawampe, near Kintampo who were charged with assaulting a driver at the lorry station at Kawampe after failing to pay loading fees.

He said Police personnel fail to conduct proper investigations into the case to warrant the prosecution of suspected criminals as such criminals are left off the hook for lack of evidence.

Mr. Kumah said that Techiman Municipal Circuit Court would never involve itself in chieftaincy, land or political issues and expects the police and other law enforcing agencies to do the right thing for offenders to be dealt with accordingly.
