ASD Lumber Ghana Limited, the new owner and Manager of former Western Veneer Lumber Company Limited has taken over the company to repair undertake rehabilitation work. However, the move was not without drama, as former workers of WVLC trooped to the premises in their numbers with some of them asking questions about the payment of their severance awards.
Some of the workers who spoke to Twin City Radio said they came to the workplace to find out whether recruitment would take place.
The Head of Public Affairs of ASD Lumber Ghana Limited, William Newman said the company decided to take possession of the company because it had finished paying 20% of the amount contained in the agreement of transfer of ownership.
Mr. Newman however explained that the severance awards supposed to be paid to the former WVLC workers are to be done by government and not the company.
He said the company has received applications from more than 850 former workers of WVLC and added that about 95.5% of those applicants would be employed because of the skills they already have.
