Parliament approves appropriation bill

Parliament Tuesday passed the Appropriation Bill before the House rose for the Christmas holidays. With the passing of the bill, government can be run with GH¢107,063,135 till the entire budget is approved. The Speaker, Ebenezer Sekyi Hughes thanked members for their hard work, especially by scrutinizing next year's government financial settlement.

He was happy that consensus building played a major role in deliberations in the House which led to the passage of a number of bills.

For his part, the Majority Leader, Abraham Osei Aidoo praised members for their dedication.

He said the leadership has pledged to solve some of the challenges facing the members, adding that there will be significant improvement in the works of the House.

Mr. Osei Aidoo asked the members to stay united. The Minority Leader, Alban Bagbin hoped members have discharged their duty conscientiously.

He suggested to the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning to enable the Electoral Commission to play a major role in the deliberations in the House.

Mr. Alban called for concerted efforts to fight corruption which he said should be tackled at the highest official level.
The Minority Leader expressed concern about the resurgence of chieftaincy disputes and urged the appropriate authorities to check them.
