The First Lady, Mrs. Theresah Kufuor has presented 170 water purifiers, valued at US$70,000 to some women's groups at Gbimsi in the West Mamprusi District of the Northern Region. The purifiers were donated by a Dutch organisation, Southern Trident, to the Mother and Child Community Development Foundation. Mrs. Kufuor was visiting the district to interact and sympathize with women and children, following this year's drought and floods. She also presented other items, worth about GH¢100,000 to them.

The items included wax prints, foam mattresses and cooking oil.

She said the foundation is determined to empower women socially and economically to enable them to take care of their families.

She assured them not to be down-hearted as a result of the disaster.

The First Lady called on school children in the area to work very hard in school to prepare themselves adequately to assume their role as the nation's future leaders.
The Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Mustapha Ali Idris commended the First Lady for the motherly role she has been playing and noted that the Northern part of Ghana is very dear to her heart.

He said the role of the mother and child community Development Foundation, since its inception, is to support mothers and children across the country, irrespective of their political lineage.
