The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has issued a warning of additional rainfall expected later in the day across both coastal and inland areas, urging residents in flood-prone communities to remain highly vigilant.
Speaking to Citi News, the Deputy Director in charge of Forecasting at GMet, Joseph Tetteh Portuphy, said weather conditions may ease briefly between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. as a weather system passes through, but further rains are likely to follow later.
He cautioned that any additional rainfall could worsen already saturated grounds and heighten the risk of flooding in vulnerable areas.
“Over the coast and inland areas… but for us on the eastern coast, since it is a system that is passing, later in the day it will come down. Places are already flooded. Any little rain that will come again will flood the places. So we should be cautious and avoid places that are already saturated and already flooded,” he said.
Mr Portuphy advised residents to stay away from flood-prone zones and to consistently monitor official weather updates, stressing that the country is currently in the peak of the rainy season.
“We should also make sure that they stay tuned to the weather information. As I said, we are still in June. And until we get out of June, we should expect more of these rains to come,” he added.
