A 27-year-old man, Mohammed Rafiu, has been handed a prison sentence by the Hohoe Circuit Court after being found guilty of unlawful entry and stealing musical instruments belonging to a church in Hohoe in the Volta Region.
The Volta North Regional Police Command, in a statement, said the convict was arrested on June 5 2026 after he was seen around the Faith International Ministry Church carrying a sack suspected to contain stolen items.
His behaviour reportedly drew the attention of bystanders while he attempted to board a vehicle, prompting them to inspect what he was carrying.
When the sack was searched, several musical instruments belonging to the church were discovered. The items included an amplifier, an equalizer, a mixer and a crossover machine.
Police confirmed the equipment belonged to the church, leading to his arrest and detention at the Hohoe Police District.
During questioning, Rafiu admitted to the offence.
He was later brought before the Hohoe Circuit Court on Monday June 8 2026, where he pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful entry and stealing.
The court sentenced him to three years imprisonment on the unlawful entry charge and four years on the stealing charge, with both sentences ordered to run concurrently.
The Volta North Regional Police Command has since encouraged members of the public to stay alert and report any suspicious behaviour to security authorities for prompt action.
Police added that the conviction forms part of continued efforts to reduce theft and other criminal activities within communities in the region.
