AG to meet US counterparts on pending extradition requests — Kwakye Ofosu
The Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, is set to engage his counterparts at the United States Department of Justice over pending extradition requests between the two countries.
The move, announced by Minister for Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu in a social media post on Tuesday, June 9, follows the extradition of former MASLOC Chief Executive Officer, Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, to Ghana.
Ms. Tamakloe-Attionu, who was sentenced in absentia to 10 years’ imprisonment in 2024 over financial irregularities, is currently in Ghana and has been taken into police custody to begin serving her sentence.
In his post, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu stated that the Attorney General would hold bilateral talks with US authorities on outstanding extradition matters.
"The Attorney-General is scheduled to meet his counterparts at the United States Department of Justice for a bilateral discussion on all pending extradition requests between the two countries," he wrote.
Among the notable extradition requests is that of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, who is currently being sought by Ghanaian authorities.
Mr. Ofori-Atta is facing corruption-related charges filed by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP),.
He is additionally facing immigration-related issues after reportedly being detained previously by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
