The Chief Executive Officer of PIWAK Group of Companies, Dr. Prince Nelson Mortoti, has called on members and alumni of the Volta Region Students Association of the University of Cape Coast (VORSAG-UCC) to focus on creating lasting impact and embracing entrepreneurship as the association marks its 30th anniversary.
Delivering the keynote address as Chairman of the 30th Anniversary Grand Durbar of VORSAG-UCC at Auditorium 900 of the University of Cape Coast on Saturday, Dr. Mortoti said the future relevance of institutions depended on their ability to positively transform lives and contribute to national development.
Speaking on the theme, “Decades of VORSAG-UCC: Reflecting on Our Journey, Repositioning for Impact,” he described the association’s three-decade journey as a story of sacrifice, resilience and transformation.
According to him, VORSAG-UCC was built through the dedication of visionary leaders and committed members who sustained the association through challenging periods.
“Today, we are not only celebrating 30 years of existence; we are celebrating 30 years of endurance, evolution and excellence in progress,” he stated.
Dr. Mortoti stressed that impact, rather than titles or personal achievements, remained the true measure of success.
“Impact is the only thing that outlives us. Not titles, not positions, not recognition, but impact,” he said, urging members to invest in mentorship, leadership development and community service.
The business executive also encouraged young people to embrace entrepreneurship as a practical solution to Ghana’s unemployment challenge.
He noted that with more than 100,000 tertiary graduates entering the job market annually, government alone could not provide employment opportunities for all.
“The truth is that if the youth channel the knowledge acquired in school into entrepreneurship, we will create opportunities for ourselves instead of relying solely on government jobs,” he said.
Dr. Mortoti further called on government, traditional authorities, religious leaders and other stakeholders to engage in discussions on establishing a dedicated Youth Bank to provide financial support for young entrepreneurs, particularly those with vocational and technical skills.
He urged the youth to take advantage of technological advancements and develop innovative enterprises capable of creating jobs and driving economic growth.
Touching on civic responsibility, he reminded citizens of their obligations under Article 41 of Ghana’s 1992 Constitution, which emphasises hard work, community service, environmental protection and the safeguarding of public property.
Dr. Mortoti challenged members of VORSAG-UCC to move beyond celebrating past achievements and focus on shaping a more impactful future.
“Leadership is not reserved for a few. It is distributed across all who care enough to contribute. Let us think beyond today, build beyond comfort, serve beyond obligation and lead beyond expectation,” he advised.
He congratulated the founders, past leaders and members of the association for their contributions over the past three decades and expressed optimism that the next chapter of VORSAG-UCC would be stronger, more purposeful and more impactful.
The event brought together university management, government officials, alumni, patrons and members of the association to commemorate the milestone anniversary.
