Former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Christine Tamakloe-Attionu, has been taken into custody after her extradition to Ghana to begin serving a 10-year sentence.
The Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, confirmed the development in a social media post on Tuesday, June 9, outlining the sequence of legal and diplomatic processes that led to her return.
Ms. Tamakloe-Attionu was convicted in April 2024 by the High Court and sentenced in absentia for multiple offences including causing financial loss to the state, stealing, conspiracy, money laundering and procurement breaches.
Following the conviction, Ghana formally submitted an extradition request to the United States in July 2024 for her surrender to serve her sentence.
"After over two years of court proceedings, the United States authorities notified the Government of her surrender in January this year. She arrived in Accra on Tuesday, June 9, 2026," Kwakye Ofosu wrote.
He further disclosed that security agencies acted immediately upon her arrival and took her into custody.
"Officials of the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Prisons Service have taken her into custody and are making the necessary preparations for her to begin her sentence," the minister noted.
The Minister further noted that Attorney-General Dr Dominic Ayine is expected to engage his counterparts at the United States Department of Justice in further discussions on pending extradition requests between both countries.
