Vehicular movement on the Tema–Accra Motorway was severely disrupted early Monday morning after a collision involving a fuel tanker and a tipper truck near the Ashaiman overhead bridge and the Adjei Kojo underpass.

The impact triggered a fire that completely engulfed the fuel tanker, leaving it extensively damaged and causing alarm among motorists on the busy stretch.

Although the exact cause of the crash is yet to be established, emergency responders were quickly deployed to the scene to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading further.

At least three fire tenders, along with personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service, were seen at the scene conducting firefighting and safety operations in the early hours.

Authorities have since managed to bring the fire under control, with efforts ongoing to secure the area and ensure the safety of road users.

The incident has, however, resulted in heavy traffic congestion on parts of the motorway as emergency crews work to clear the wreckage and restore normal traffic flow.

Motorists travelling between Tema and Accra have been advised to exercise caution and consider alternative routes where possible to avoid delays.

No casualties or injuries had been officially confirmed at the time of filing this report, while investigations are expected to determine the exact circumstances leading to the collision.

Road users are being urged to comply with instructions from emergency personnel as efforts continue to fully reopen the motorway.
