Farmers Day Award Held

The Ministry of Food and Agriculture in conjunction with the District Assembly organised a grand durbar to honour gallant farmers in the district to mark the 23rd Farmers Day Award Celebration. The event took place at Pelungu Junior Secondary School football pitch in the Upper East Region.

Among the dignitaries present were the District Coordinating Director and his Assistant, Heads of Departments, Chiefs and all farmers.

There were 13 award winners across the district. The awards included a set of cutlasses, spades, shovels, wheelbarrows, head pans and wallington boots. The rest were bicycles, cloths, radio set, fungicides, sags, as well as certificates.

There were groups and individual award winners. They were categorized under the district best fishing group, the best organised farming group, the best compost adopter and the best animal traction farmer.

Others were, the district best small ruminant farmer, the best maize farmer, the best groundnut farmer, the best soghum farmer and the overall district best farmer.

The overall district best farmer award went to Madam Akambaga, from Palgu Bagu. She took home a bicycle, a sound system, 10 cutlasses, 5 spades, a wallington boot, a fungicide, a head pan and a certificate of merit.
