Listen to article

The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) yesteday congratulated farmers and fishermen on the occasion of the 23rd National Farmers' Day saying that students appreciated contributions of farmers to the socio-economic and political development of the country.
It said, though they still used hoes and cutlasses, with little or no extension services and rain, they had proved to be the bread winners of the county and major contributors to the Gross Domestic Product.
'With the floods in the three northern regions and some parts of the Western Region, NUGS reiterates the need for government and other stakeholders to put in place appropriate measures to forestall food shortages.'
NUGS also appealed to the government not to sign the Economic Partnership Agreement with the European Union because it 'will not only kill our local industries, but also has the potential to adversely affect the whole economy'.
