Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Sammi Awuku, has raised concerns over a recent press statement issued by the Ghana Maritime Authority regarding his Right to Information request dated April 13, 2026.

In a response shared publicly, Mr Awuku acknowledged the Authority’s statement but argued that it does not accurately reflect the sequence and intent of his actions concerning the request.

He clarified that he initially submitted an RTI application which he later withdrew, before filing a fresh request seeking specific information. According to him, the manner in which the withdrawal letter has been publicised creates a misleading impression about his actions.

Mr Awuku further indicated that the Authority’s statement failed to adequately address the eleven questions contained in his RTI request, raising concerns about the completeness of the response provided so far.

Despite these concerns, he noted that in the interest of fairness and due process, he will wait for the Authority’s formal response as indicated. He expressed the expectation that the response will comprehensively address the issues raised and present all relevant facts to the public.

He reaffirmed his commitment to pursuing the matter through appropriate legal and institutional channels.

I have now changed my mind if the ship was at Axim. That's where most Cocain drops from South America and Caribbean. The Navy should patrol Axim coast regularly.
