The Metro Mass Transport (MMT) is extending its services to various parts of the Northern Region as means of reducing part of the acute transportation problem facing the people.

Disclosing this in an interview the press, the Regional Manager of the Metro Mass Transport, Mr Malik Ibrahim said following appeals by chiefs and their people through their District chief Executives and MPs to President J.A Kufuor, buses have been released to operate in Bole, Nalerigu, Bunkurgu and Chereponi, all in the Northern Region.

This, he said, has eased part of the acute transport problem in those parts of the Northern Region as well as promoting brisk business transactions as people can now travel several times to the regional capital, Tamale in a day.

The Regional Manager however, urged the people to continue to take good care of the buses adding that passengers should pay their fares and insist on the right tickets to ensure moneys they paid did not go into individual pockets.

He advised all to report any bad conduct of either the driver, or the conductor for necessary action to be taken since the buses were meant to help reduce their poverty.

He called on the travelling public to patronise the Metro Mass Transport to enable it to generate enough funds to meet the running cost of the buses, which he said will be regularly maintained to make them more reliable and comfortable.

Mr Ibrahim disclosed that, during the recent inauguration of the Metro Mass Transport service at Chereponi, the Regent Mukayila, Abubakar Malba thanked President Kufuor for honouring his promise in providing the area with a bus following their appeal to him.

Regent Malba, remarked that he and his people were confident that all their demands to the President would be met now that they have been given a district, as promised by President Kufuor.

He gave the assurance that, his people were prepared to continue to offer necessary care for the Metro Mass Transport staff and busses posted to the newly created district.
