Fuel prices to ease as NPA lowers petrol, diesel floors in April pricing window

Consumers of petroleum products are expected to experience slight relief in the second pricing window of April, following the National Petroleum Authority's announcement of new minimum price thresholds for fuel.

Under the revised pricing benchmarks, petrol is projected to sell at a minimum of GH¢13.27 per litre, down marginally from GH¢13.30 per litre in the first pricing window of April, representing a small reduction.

Diesel has recorded a more notable decline, with the new price floor set at GH¢16.10 per litre, compared to GH¢17.10 per litre previously, reflecting a drop of GH¢1 per litre.

In contrast, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) has seen a slight increase, with the price floor rising to GH¢10.79 per kilogram from GH¢10.71 per kilogram in the previous window.

The adjustments indicate a mixed trend, with petrol and diesel offering modest relief to consumers while LPG continues on an upward path.

The NPA explained that the price floor represents the minimum selling price allowed for Oil Marketing Companies and LPG Marketing Companies under Ghana’s regulated pricing system.

The new regime is expected to take effect ahead of an anticipated government intervention involving the suspension of selected fuel taxes and margins in the upcoming pricing window beginning April 16, aimed at cushioning consumers from persistent fuel cost pressures.

Recent fluctuations in fuel prices have been largely influenced by global market volatility, particularly geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, which continue to affect crude oil prices and domestic pump rates.
