The Greater Accra Regional Directorate of the Ghana Health Service says the Ridge Hospital in Accra is suspending all OPD services with effect from Saturday December 1, 2007.

The move, according to Dr. Irene Agyepong, Regional Director of Health Services, is part of the hospital's efforts to decongest the health facility.

“It has been decided to decongest the Ridge Hospital for it to be able to properly care for referred cases, emergencies and seriously-ill patients.

With effect from December 1, 2007, the hospital will attend to only referred clients, those attending specialist clinics as well as those with emergency cases,” she said in a statement.

She added that the hospital, which primarily caters for referral, specialist and emergency cases only, is now flooded with people who need routine OPD services.

This, she noted, is seriously affecting quality service delivery at the hospital; “The public is therefore advised to visit any polyclinic within the metropolis.

The Adabraka Polyclinic and all other polyclinics have been adequately resourced to meet the demands of the public for primary and OPD care.”
