The Office of Ghanaian businessman and politician Nana Kwame Bediako, popularly known as Cheddar, has warned the public against fraudulent online investment schemes being circulated on social media.
The office says the schemes are using artificial intelligence-generated content to impersonate his voice and image, falsely presenting him as a promoter of a government-backed investment programme.
In a statement issued via social media on Thursday, April 9, the office further raised concerns that the materials are designed to mislead unsuspecting individuals into investing money under false promises of high returns.
“The Office of Nana Kwame Bediako wishes to draw the attention of the general public to the emergence of fraudulent online investment schemes that are unlawfully using the name, image, voice, and likeness of Nana Kwame Bediako to misinform and deceive unsuspecting individuals,” the statement read in part.
According to the statement, the fake content is being widely circulated across social media platforms and often includes manipulated videos and audio generated using artificial intelligence.
“These scams… deploy manipulated videos and audio generated through artificial intelligence to imitate his voice and persona,” it noted.
The office stressed that Nana Kwame Bediako has no involvement in any such investment scheme and urged the public to disregard all related content.
It also warned perpetrators behind the scam to desist immediately or face legal action.
"These fraudulent materials have been reported to the relevant social media platform operators for immediate action. Additionally, steps are being taken to engage the nation’s cybersecurity authorities to investigate and ensure that appropriate sanctions are applied to those responsible," it further noted.
