The Center for Economic Research and Policy Analysis (CERPA) has released an independent review of President John Dramani Mahama 's 2026 State of the Nation Address, pointing to signs of economic recovery while urging stronger measures to ensure the gains are felt by ordinary Ghanaians.
Published on March 3, 2026, the review highlights progress in inflation control, the appreciation of the cedi, and a reduction in public debt, describing the current outlook as a stabilising macroeconomic environment with improved international credibility.
“Stabilisation is a critical first step,” CERPA noted, “but sustained recovery requires a clear bridge between aggregate gains and everyday economic outcomes.”
The report emphasised that although fiscal indicators are improving, households, small businesses, and productive sectors must experience tangible benefits.
The think tank also assessed key initiatives outlined in the address, including the “24-Hour Economy” and the “Big Push.” It called for clearer implementation frameworks, detailed financing plans, stronger institutional coordination, and measurable performance benchmarks to boost investor confidence and accelerate job creation.
CERPA further urged the government to provide more comprehensive strategies for the energy sector, the cocoa industry and policies that connect macroeconomic stability to household purchasing power. It argued that greater clarity would reinforce public confidence in the recovery agenda and promote inclusive growth.
“Ghana's economic story is moving from recovery to transformation,” the report concluded. “Long-term prosperity will depend on productivity, competitiveness, export growth, and institutional credibility.”
Overall, CERPA's assessment recognises economic progress but stresses that stability must translate into structural reforms and broad-based prosperity.
