Robbers Butcher Phone Man

By Daily Guide

BARELY FOUR days after Eric Alfred Zieme, aka Kumasi Ataa Ayi, 25, a notorious armed robber was busted, three other armed robbers have assaulted a mobile phone repairer in Kumasi.

The three had successfully dispossessed the repairer of ¢800,000 and eight cellular phones which he was working on last Sunday, November 3, 2007 at Atasomanso, a Kumasi suburb.

Two of the robbers fled with the booty but the third, identified as Stephen Boateng, 32, who attempted to kill the victim, has found himself in the grips of the law.

According to ASP David Kofi Gyabaa, crime officer of the Asokwa Police station, on that fateful day at about 10:30 pm, the suspect who was in the company of two others now at large, met Seth Adade Boateng, a phone repairer at Atasomanso.

He said the gangsters robbed Adade, subjected him to severe beatings and fled but Stephen Boateng returned with the obvious intention of killing him.

His accomplices, according to the crime officer, escaped with the booty whilst Stephen continued to carry out his plan with the conviction that if they left Adade alive, he would report them to the police.

As the suspect chopped off the fingers of the victim, one Mohammed A. Akayiba, a driver and other people in the area heard Adade's screams and rushed to his rescue.

ASP Gyabaa told DAILY GUIDE that Stephen was then arrested and handed over to the Asokwa police. He has been placed in custody and is assisting in police investigations.
