UBA Wins Global Award

United Bank for Africa Plc of Nigeria, the parent company of UBA(Ghana) Ltd, has received the Emerging Global Bank Award organised by African Business, a premier Pan-African news magazine.

The organisers explained in a statement that the award was bestowed on the international bank which has most positively influenced the African continent.

The presentation ceremony in Washington DC, United States of America, was witnessed by a host of distinguished personalities from the continent's financial services sector, including Governors of Central Banks, Finance Ministers and Bank Chief Executives from various countries.

The statement said UBA won the award in recognition of its global expansion plans beyond Nigeria to other parts of Africa.

In addition to Ghana, UBA has obtained regional banking licences in East and Central Africa and is determined to make true its vision of being a role model for African businesses. 
 
According to the release, the Chief Executive Officer of the bank's operations in East and Southern Africa, Mr Ifeatu Onejeme, received the award on behalf of the bank and paid tribute to the Nigerian Central Bank which introduced courageous reforms in the Nigerian banking industry that created the framework for banks such as UBA to show their true potential and actualise the vision of playing alongside the best banks in the world.

He was quoted as saying the bank would continue to play a key role in transforming Africa by providing financial services and products to help businesses and individuals achieve their commercial and personal aspirations.

Within three years of operations in Ghana, the bank's subsidiary UBA (Ghana) Ltd, has expanded to six locations in Accra, Tema, Kumasi and Takoradi with plans to open more branches.
